Will of O. Bernard, Sr. State of Louisiana, Parish of West Baton Rouge, Feb. 1, 1866
Aug. 21, 1858 May God Be my helper . . . . in the division .... that my children may know my last wishes .... The executor will be my son, Edgard .... I leave for my heirs my legitimate children Onesiphore, Hermine, Melisant, Alphonse, Edgard, and Eliza. ... all my property, land, slaves, etc., to my six children ... but I want my debts to be paid with the shortest delay possible after my death. .... my executor is to have $300.00, this sum to be paid to serve the needs of my little mulatto Francis, who I emancipated according to the judgement of the 6th court of the District of West Baton Rouge, October 17, 1856. The said sum is to go into Edgard's hands to take care of Francis until he reaches the age of twenty-one years. .... after that, Francis may dispose of it as he wishes. In the event of Francis' death, the $300.00 is to be equally divided among my heirs.
