    • Agent of Lord Fairfax in the purchase and settlement of immense tracts of land in Virginia, of which he himself owned five hundred thousand acres, called "Borden's Grant." [5]

      Benjamin Borden, son or Richard and Joane Borden, born at Portsmouth, Rhode Island, 1649, married there, September 22, 1671, Abigail, daughter of Henry Glover, of Hartford, Connecticut, and removed to Shrewsbury, New Jersey, where his father had purchased land in 1667. He died there in 1718, and his widow Abigail in 1720.

      Benjamin Borden married Abigail Grover (dau. of James Grover, senior, of Middletown), Sept. 22, 1670; she d. Jan. 8, 1720, aged 66 years. He probably removed from Portsmouth, R. I., soon after making the purchase of lands in Shrewsbury, in 1665, and settled at the later place, being allotted Lot No. 29 of the lotts of Middleton, Dec. 30, 1667, and the next day Lot No. 23, in the lotts that are in the Poplar feild and the mountany feild.—Town Book of Old Middletown, 1.
