- James Grover, the father of Abigail (Grover) Borden, was active in the settlement of East Jersey. He had settled in 1648 at Gravesend, L. I., and he was sent by the English colonists of Long Island on a mission to Cromwell in 1655. He was one of the grantees of the Monmouth County patent, 1663. He held various public offices, including that of deputy to treat with the admirals and commanders of the fleet of the States-General in 1673. He died in 1686. [1]
