    Il quitta la France le 12/08/1785 comme officier sur le Ville d'Archangel, engagé par l'Espagne pour transporter les familles acadiennes en Louisianne. Le 11/10/1785, le bateau fit escale à la Havane (Cuba). Ils reprirent la mer le 18/10/1785 et arrivèrent le 04/11/1785 à Balize, un poste sur le Mississipi. Ils n'arrivèrent à la Nouvelle Orléans que le 03/12/1785.

    Parmi les passagers du navire se trouvait Marie Victoire Bourque, qui voyageait avec ses parents, et qui allait devenir sa femme. Ils s'installèrent alors près de Baton-Rouge pour ne jamais revenir en France.

    Il est considéré comme un vétéran de la guerre d'indépendance : lors de la défaite des Anglais à Yorktown, il est enseigne sur un navire de combat. Il servit comme premier lieutenant dans le Spanish Mixed Roal Militia, La, Provincial Legion.     A Sugar Plantation situated in aforesaid parish, measuring 4 arpents front on the Mississippi River, by 40 in depth, on two parallel lines, bounded on one side by Widow Louis Bernard, and on the other by Onesiphort Bernard, together with all the appurtenances, such as a dwelling house, kitchen, pigeon house, sugar house, purgery, sugar mill, negro cabins, &c. On the plantation are about 50 arpents of sugar cane and about 15 arpents of rattoon of the first year.
    Also, 13 slaves of different ages and sexes; cattle, horses, aratory utensils, &c.

    "DIED -- On the 29th of August, at the residence of his son-in-law, Major James DeVall in West Baton Rouge, Felix Bernard, Esquire, a native of Nantz, France, aged 81. The deceased was a midshipman in the French Navy during the American Revolution, and as such assisted at the closing scenes of that great drama, the capture of Yorktown. He has left descendants numerous and respectable. By the kindness of Colonel Whistler and the officers of the 4th regiment stationed at this place, his remains were committed to mother earth with the honors due to one who has served at the time and in some of the same scenes with Washington and Lafayette."
