In 1848, it is fondly recalled, the Férriers introduced their daughter Rosa, who later became Mrs. Ashby [sic] Destrehan, to society. So many were the acceptances of invitations to be present at the debutante's coming out party, that it was realized the capacity of the house would be severely taxed. In consequence Doctor Férrier "borrowed" the house next door, that one occupied by Doctor Labatut, and the iron grille dividing the two balconies was removed so the guests could pass from one house to the other without being forced to take to the street.
