- Jean-Baptiste de Jaham (1610-1685) was born in Saint-Mars-des-Prés in the Vendée region of France. In 1635 he immigrated to Martinique in the West Indies where he settled and became an important member of the community. He became the Lord of Vertpré. Jean-Baptiste married twice, to Françoise Masse and Marie Deville, and was the father of eight children. Descendants live in Martinique and other parts of the world.

JAHAM The first member of this family arrived in MARTINIQUE in 1635 with DU PARQUET he was called JEAN JAHAM sieur DE VERTPRE, born in 1610 at St-Mars des Prés POITOU FRANCE.
Jean Jaham was among the 6 men which was the official escort of Jacques DU PATQUET named by the king of France to take possession of the island of MARTINIQUE.
Jean Jaham was captain of the first Armed Forces in service in the island, he died in 1685. He was first married to MARIE DYEL who died in 1655. They had 5 children:
1_ JEAN JAHAM de VERPTRE, born 1643, died 1687
2_ François JAHAM DUPRE, born 1645, died 1699
3_ Jacques JAHAM DES PRES, born 1650, died 1708, married in 1676, to Adrienne DYEL de GRAVILLE who was great-great grandmother of the empress JOSEPHINE to the Emperor BONAPARTE NAPOLEON 1er.
