    COURT OF PROBATES -- Sale by the Register of Wills
    On Thursday, 9th June 1831, at twelve o?clock M. I shall offer for sale, for account of the community which existed between the late Mercelite Maxent deceased, wife of Louis de Feriet and the said Louis de Feriet as well as for account of the partnership which has existed between the said Feriet and J. B. Vignie, the following property and slaves, to wit:
    1st A Sugar Refinery and a Distillery situate in the suburb Clouet, on a lot measuring 65 feet, 10 inches front to the river on about 515 feet in depth; which lot agreeably to the plan made by Joseph Pilie, city surveyor, is regular to a depth of 300 feet where it widens and measures 254 feet in width for a distance of 140 feet and then diminishes 62 feet until it reaches the end of the 515 feet in depth.
    On the front part stands a brick house, and in the depth a building also of brick, and mostly covered with a terrace roof. The distillery makes upon an average 100 to 120 thousand gallons of rum a year, and has all the necessary utensils. It is in good condition and was newly repaired about 2 years ago. The fermentation tubs are well made and of choice wood. There are five stills, two rectificators. The establishment is supplied with water by means of a steam engine of five horses power which draws water from the river by iron pipes 6 inches in diameter. The engine is a very simple one, requires little fuel and draws a great quantity of water. Also, a basin 200 feet long and 40 wide, on which is established an iron bucket wheel, which a horse draws a sufficiency of water, when the use of the steam engine is dispensed with. There is in the same establishment, a sugar refinery with all the necessary utensils to work it. Also, a good forge, lodging for the mechanics, stables, coach houses, &c.
    2nd A LOT OF GROUND situate in the suburb Clouet, measuring 70 feet front to the river, and 300 in depth bounded below by the property of Thomas Banks, and above by that of Messrs. Feriet and Vignie, on which stands a dwelling house, a fine garden containing many fruit trees, kitchen, and a passage for carriages and horses. The levee is in good condition.
    3rd ANOTHER LOT situate in the same suburb, measuring 56 feet front to the river and 200 feet in depth, bounded on the side of the city by the property of Mr. John Lewis, and on the , other by that of Messrs Feriet and Vignie, on which lot there are a great quantity of fruit trees.
    SLAVES: Julien, a negro aged 50 years, carpenter; Tom, a negro aged 30, carpenter; Fox, a negro aged 30, well acquainted with the business of refinery; Moses, a negro aged 21, also acquainted with the same business; Pierre, a negro aged 38, and Tom Brown, aged 30 both cart drivers and wood cutters; Gregoire, a negro aged 40, cartman acquainted with the business of a distillery; Solomon, a negro aged 60, employed in the distillery; Thomas a mulatto aged 28 years, cartman employed in the Refinery; Daniel aged 25, cooper and wood cutter; Francois, a negro aged 60, somewhat of a carpenter, having a hernia. All of the above slaves are very intelligent and handy at all sorts of work.
    TERMS: 1 & 2 years credit is approved endorsed paper with mortgage until final payment. The notes to be divided in amounts as may suit the vendors. The acts of sale shall be passed before T. Seghers, notary at the expense of the purchasers. By order of the court.
